“He’s been able to show his brilliant intelligence” – Frank Lampard explains why Salah didn’t make it at Chelsea

Frank Lampard has made the smooth transition from incredible player to brilliant pundit, and the fact that he’s recently retired means he still has plenty of insight on players who are playing now.

He was a BT Sport pundit yesterday watching the Liverpool – Man City game, and he had plenty to say about Mo Salah, who killed the tie with a lovely lofted finish at the Etihad.

Salah didn’t make much of an impact at Chelsea, and had to head to Italy to develop his game. But when asked what had changed in the Egyptian’s game, Lampard was in no doubt it was a tactical switch as much as anything.

“He’s released himself from the wing. At Chelsea he was seen as a winger. He didn’t have much impact but there were a lot of players ahead of him, the likes of Eden Hazard who was older than him,” Lampard told BT Sport, as quoted in the Metro.

As much as it’s painful to watch former Blues doing well elsewhere, there can be no doubt that Salah just wouldn’t have reached this level if he had stuck around at the Bridge under Jose, playing the odd game now and then stuck out wide on the wing.
