Chelsea’s £43.7 defender chase hints at Napoli boss as new manager

Sites like the Sun have been full of rumours about a Napoli defender this week, but for once it’s not Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegalese centre back has long been the subject of rumours linking him with Premier League clubs, but now it’s Elseid Hysaj who’s been tipped for a Premier League move.

What’s interesting about this move is that Hysaj, who is a versatile Albanian full back, is a favourite of Maurizio Sarri. The Napoli manager had him at Empoli, and he was one of the players he brought with him to Naples.

Chelsea’s interest may be totally independent of that, but if they do make strong moves towards securing his signature, it could indicate that they are doing so because they know Sarri wants him.

Either way, as the Sun note, Chelsea aren’t the only ones chasing the defender, who they claim has a £43.72m release clause in his contract.
