Are Chelsea and Arsenal being used by former Barcelona man to stir up interest?

Spanish paper Sport yesterday carried the headline “Luis Enrique is close to taking over at Chelsea”. That sounds pretty definite. Reading that, you could be forgiven that a deal is close.

But then again if you’d happened to pick up a copy of French football magazine L’Equipe, you’d have found a very different story. As you can see in the Tweet below, they are all in on Enrique to Arsenal.

So what’s the story here? Is it just that the two publications have different sources, one of which is misinformed? Maybe.

It’s only speculation, but there also seems the very strong possibility that these leaks are coming from Enrique’s camp. It would suit him very nicely to play the two clubs against each other, to secure a better contract for himself, but also to encourage interest from other clubs, who will see that he is very much a manager in demand.

This chase could go on for some time, and we can expect these kinds of games to be played throughout the summer.
