Jose Mourinho makes huge comment to defend Antonio Conte amid Chelsea troubles

Chelsea struggled to play against Manchester City may well be the biggest understatement in the world but the criticsm that followed the game at the Ettihad was uncalled for, according to Jose Mourinho.

The Blues were whitewashed by Man City last Sunday in the Premier League encounter as City tore apart a defensive setup by Antonio Conte. The Italian was hoping for a similar tactic and display as that against Barcelona in the first leg of the round of 16 Champions League a fortnight ago.

However, his side were outplayed and could not go close to the ball for a majority of the game. Pundits and the media as a whole jumped on Conte for his ‘negative tactics’ with some saying he played ‘anti-football’.

Despite the feud at the start of the year between Antonio Conte and Mourinho, the pair seemed to have repaired their relationship even before their game at Old Trafford on February 25, so Mourinho defense of him will surprise a few.

“Honestly, I know what you are writing as a consequence of yesterday. But Chelsea is a fantastic team and, I know it looks a bit strange because you know we had problems in the past, but it’s quite ridiculous that I have to say how unfair it is to speak the way people are speaking about the English champion.

They are still the English champion. Chelsea was strong against us. They started very strong and created difficulty in that initial part of the game.”
