Olivier Giroud gives timely positive update to injuries picked up on Chelsea debut

Chelsea new signing Olivier Giroud has given fans the brightest of news after his debut finished on Monday with injuries to his head and calf.

The France international enjoyed a rather productive evening against West Brom, creating one of the three goals scored on the night, but was targeted by the Baggie throughout the game.

His involvement was by far what Chelsea fans expected of their star forwards and was greeted with cheers when he was replaced by Alvaro Morata in the second half.

Giroud was injured severely at the back of his head in the first half, when Heggazi sliced his boot on Giroud’s head after a tussle in the Baggies penalty area. He was also involved in a tackle that left a sore on his calf, but Giroud says he would be back quickly, and may be hoping to play a part in the clash with Hull City on Friday, in the FA Cup.

‘It was very exciting for me. I was looking forward to making my debut at Stamford Bridge so I feel very good. Obviously I had the studs on my head, and afterwards I needed some stitches at half-time, but I feel okay.

The main thing was the calf, when I received a kick from behind. It was sore so hopefully I’m going to recover quickly. It’s part of the game and as long as it’s not on purpose it’s okay, I’m used to it and the doctor has done a good job.
