Lionel Messi looking more capable than ever to score first goal against Chelsea, but Blues can have hope

Chelsea have never conceded a goal scored by Lionel Messi in their many clashes with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

The diminutive Argentina international has not scored against the Blues in eight games, dating back to when he first played against Chelsea twelve years ago. Samuel Eto’o’s goal sealed the game at Stamford Bridge, but Lionel Messi took the shine for what was a stellar announcement to football, about his unfailing talent and ability to shine against the big boys.

Despite going on almost a dozen games without scoring, it looks more now, than ever, that Messi would find his much needed goal against Chelsea.

Thanks to Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona has become a very pragmatic coach, winning games without having to play their usual systems and employing same tactics. They switch around their style a lot these days, one of the reasons, they have kept their unbeaten form going this season in the La Liga.

Going into the clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, Messi looks very capable of joining any likely scorers on the night. He has scored in the Champions League only three times this season, but that is because goals at Barcelona are spread through.

Beware Chelsea, Messi may just yet begin a decent run of scoring run that would sink all arguments in deep waters, that he loses his form against the Blues.
