Chelsea target left out of crucial Champions League tie as £25m release clause revealed

Toby Aldeweireld has been left out of Tottenham’s Champions League travelling party and is unhappy with the ongoing contract negotiations at the club according to Matt Law in the Telegraph.

The Belgian defender has long been a target for Chelsea, with the Blues linked with him many times over the years, from his days at Atletico Madrid and Southampton till now.

Certainly the £25m clause in his contract that can be activated from next summer makes him an interesting target for any club, as the former Saint has shown himself to be one of the top defenders in Europe over the last few years.

Chelsea are already very well equipped at centre-back, with Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Andreas Christensen and the on loan Kurt Zouma already on their books.

However, when a player as good as Aldeweireld is on the market, at that price, they will be interested no matter what.
