“There has been a lot of talk about it” – West Ham assistant manager responds to Chelsea’s Andy Carroll chase

Chelsea are interested in West Ham United striker Andy Carroll and are willing to take him on loan for the next six months but Hammers assistant manager Alan Irvine insists the player will not move this January.

The former Newcastle United striker has not exactly set the stage alight for West Ham United but has been linked to one of the bigger clubs in the Premier League, bizarrely.

Chelsea’s reported interest in the England international stems out of their pursuit to better their striking department after some failings by their attackers this season. Those reports grew as the days flew by in this transfer window and a lot has been said about the Blues turning to Andy Carroll.

The news may not have been welcomed by West Ham who are keen on holding on to their player, who they believe will have a part to play in their fight to remain in the top flight beyond this season, after battling with relegation this season.

“I certainly hope Andy will be a player here at the end of the month. I don’t think we have had any offers, in terms of taking him on loan, and I don’t think the club would entertain him going out on loan.

That does not help us and we need as much help as we can get between now and the end of the season, so I don’t know why that would be attractive to the club if it was to come up. There has been a lot of talk about it, but not necessarily anybody doing anything about it.”
