Why Chelsea loanee’s early termination is a blessing

Kasey Palmer’s loan to Huddersfield has been cut short. The attacking midfielder announced the news on his Twitter yesterday.

It’s not clear whose decision it was to end the loan, but it makes sense from the perspective of both sides. Palmer isn’t contributing, and there’s no point having him there if he’s not featuring. The Terriers would be better off spending those wages on someone who can start, and Chelsea would be better off having Palmer playing.

It’s a real shame that the injury ruined his chances of being a regular in the Premier League, but it was perhaps ambitious. He will be well suited to a second half of the season back in the Championship where he can hopefully get the game-time he needs.

Izzy Brown, who was also a key figure at Huddersfield last season, is a peripheral figure himself, but at Brighton. Both will be hoping for a busy January is they are to get the games they need.
