Nigerian the only player to emerge with credit from Chelsea’s defeat

There weren’t many winners from Saturday’s games wearing Blue, but Victor Moses was one of them.

Moses was brought on not long into the second half to replace Marcos Alonso, but it could easily have been for Davide Zappacosta, who was hauled off not long after for Willian.

Both of the full backs had shockers, and Moses looks a better option than either at the moment.

Moses played last week as he returned from injury, and it seemed Zappacosta would play in midweek then Moses yesterday. But Moses ended up playing against Madrid too, and clearly 4 games in two weeks was too many for a player who was only returning from a two month layoff in the first game of that run.

If Chelsea had a competent backup leftback to Marcos Alonso, he could have played when Alonso needs a rest rather than shifting Zappacosta there and playing Moses too, so that the Nigerian wasn’t ready to play yesterday.
