Key Chelsea player’s contract situation “increasingly delicate”

Thibaut Courtois looks closer than ever to the door at Chelsea, with Juventus genuinely interested in his services.

That’s according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who always seems to be in the know on transfer matters.

He described the situation developing between Courtois and Chelsea over his contract as “increasingly delicate”.

Whether or not he has any inside information, it’s hard to imagine the truth being much different. Chelsea refuse to be held ransom by players, and tend to sell anyone who doesn’t put pen to paper when there’s 18 months or less on their deal.

They won’t want to lose the Belgian on a free in the summer of 2019, so they will happily sell him, to Juventus or whoever pays most, if he’s refusing to sign a new deal.

That would be a bitter blow, and given how important he is to the team, you can be sure there are plenty of people working behind the scenes to tie him down.
