“Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian” – Ray Wilkins explains why Man United will land Chelsea star and not Mesut Ozil

Former Chelsea star Ray Wilkins has explained why Chelsea are more likely to lose a star forward this January to Manchester United than Arsenal are.

Both Chelsea’s Willian and Arsenal forward Mesut Ozil have been linked with an Old Trafford switch in the new year with Jose Mourinho looking to add more quality to his squad as they seek to contend with Man City for the title this season.

However it looks almost impossible that Man United can snatch any of the two stars from title rivals in the middle of the season, as Chelsea and Arsenal also consider themselves title candidates, despite Pep Gaurdiola’s men stretching the gab at the top of the table to 11 points.

With varying styles and approaches to games, Wilkins believes Mourinho will target Willian a bit more than Ozil in the coming transfer window, as the Brazilian winger fits the Portuguese coach’s aggressive style.

Mesut Ozil won’t go to Old Trafford because he doesn’t have the work ethic that Mourinho looks for in his players. I actually see Willian as being the likely player to head to Old Trafford. Jose is an enormous admirer of Willian and he would be a special signing for United, but I pray that Chelsea don’t let him go.

Ozil needs to go back to Germany, enjoy his football again and get around the pitch as he likes doing. In the Premier League, you’re expected to work hard defensively for your team, and I don’t think Mesut does that enough.

Willian has seen game time difficult to come by this season, after Antonio Conte preferred to switch to a 3-5-2 system that employs three central midfielder and restricts attackers to just two, currently occupied by star forward Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata.
