Chelsea’s reward for failing to beat Atletico Madrid is a knock out tie with Barcelona or PSG

Chelsea could receive the worst possible news during the Champions League knockout draw on Monday after failing to beat Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Being the last group game in the tournament this season, Chelsea had to beat Diego Simeone’s side to top the group but failed to do so and finished second behind AS Roma who conquered Azerbaijan in Rome.

Chelsea were wasteful in front of goal as several chances went begging. The worst of them were the second half opportunities wasted by Alvaro Morata, Andreas Chrsitensen and Willian after he was introduced.

Now what this means is the 2012 winners will face one of Barcelona, Besiktas or Paris Saint Germain in the round of 16.

This is because four of the other English clubs in the Champions League this season have topped their groups, leaving only three groups Chelsea can play against.

The draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland as top clubs will know their fate in the competition. The first legs of the round of 16 will take place on February 13/14 and 20/21 while the second legs will be played on March 6/7 and 13/14.
