Chelsea will sign striker they desperately need in January

If you ever doubted it before, the lineup last night against Huddersfield told you the rest. Chelsea need a striker in January, and barring something really exceptional, they’ll get one.

The fact that Antonio Conte didn’t trust Michy Batshuayi to start against Huddersfield despite Alvaro Morata missing out just shows how little faith he has in the Belgian.

As though we needed any reminding of that: Conte’s used any options rather than the Belgian since earlier in the season, when he clearly ran out of patience with him.

Now the club will go all out to sign some kind of backup for Morata in the winter window.

There won’t be much out there, and we certainly won’t be picking up any big names, but at this stage anything will do.

A veteran available on the cheap seems the most likely option, although Premier League clubs are loathe to sell their goalscorers in January.

Whoever it is, they are urgently needed, and it’s unlikely to be anyone who will get Blues fans excited.
