Chelsea 2-0 Brighton – Player Ratings

Chelsea strolled to a comfortable win against a limited Brighton team in a festive game at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were sluggish in the first half, having perhaps enjoyed a little too much Christmas turkey, but after the break they came to life. First Alvaro Morata headed in Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross to set them on their way, before Marcos Alonso added a header of his own for the second.

Here are our ratings from today’s featured Chelsea players…

Starting Eleven:

Thibaut Courtois – 6 – Had nothing to do in the first half, and not much more in the second.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7 – Imperious in defence then supplied the vital ball for Morata to open the scoring.

Gary Cahill – 7 – Had to move out of his favoured spot on the left of the back three but didn’t look troubled for a moment.

Antonio Rudiger- 7 – As always looked confident at the back and slotted into the defence without any fuss.

Victor Moses- 7 – Got better and better as the game went on and troubled Brighton’s left side a lot in the second period.

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 6 – Not bad in open play but had three separate shocking misses which could have cost the team on another day.

N’Golo Kante – 8 – Superb in midfield, breaking up play as always but also adding a lot in attack with his burss forward

Cesc Fabregas – 7 – Had the creative burden heavily on him and after a poor first half showed what he could do in the second.

Marcos Alonso – 7 – Scored his TENTH goal of 2017 with a header from a corner after almost scoring moments before with a free kick.

Alvaro Morata – 7 – Once again battled well up front and showed some tasty touches, as well as getting his first goal for a while with a gorgeous header.

Eden Hazard – 8 – Quiet in the first half but extremely bright in the second half. Taken off in the 70th minute after taking yet more studs to the calf.

Substitutes:

Willian – 6 – Came on for Hazard in the 70th minute and didn’t make much of an impact.

Michy Batshuayi – 6 – Came on in the 80th minute as Morata was given a few minutes off.

Danny Drinkwater – 6 – Came on for N’Golo Kante and barely had time to touch the ball.
