Chelsea 1-1 Atletico Madrid – Player Ratings

Chelsea drew 1-1 with Atletico after wasting a host of chances to win the game.

A slow first half saw the Blues look puzzled as they waiting for Atleti to attack. Their visitors needed to win but couldn’t bring themselves to push forward and risk exposing themselves.

The second half was much more thrilling, with the Blues going behind then fighting back to almost win the game.

Here are our ratings from today’s featured Chelsea players…

Starting Eleven:

Thibaut Courtois – 6 – Not much to do. Left stranded by his defenders on the goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7 – Immaculate at the back after a refreshing rest over the weekend.

Gary Cahill – 6 – Dealt with Griezmann well despite the Frenchman’s clever movement. Made a massively risky but clean tackle in the 89th minute and got away with it.

Andreas Christensen- 6 – Made a rare error at the start of the second half when he fouled Antoine Griezmann. Then put a header straight at Jan Oblak which he should have scored, followed by a second he put wide.

Davide Zappacosta- 6 – Good shot when he cut in early on. His willingness to take people on for speed was useful but too many mistakes on the ball. was being played out of position 

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 6 – Was doing well until he let Saul run free at the corner to score the opener.

Cesc Fabregas – 7 – Ran things from midfield and played all manner of threatening passes for his teammates.

Victor Moses – 7 – A real threat down the right for the whole game and a great 90 minutes under his belt.

N’Golo Kante – 7 – Did well but wasn’t hugely pressured as Atleti sat deep for much of the game.

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Quiet first half then fluffed the one on one to win the game.

Eden Hazard – 8 – Quiet in the first half against a well organised team of good defenders, but showed his quality in the second, taking on defenders and forcing Savic’s own goal.

Substitutes:

Willian – 6 – Introduced as Chelsea went all out to win the game but messed up a wide open chance to win it and then stuffed two counter attacks.

Michy Batshuayi – 6 – Didn’t have long to impress but managed to fluff a couple of chances.

Pedro – 8 – Changed the game when brought on, running at the defence effectively.
