Marco Asensio ready to join Chelsea if he’s not given more playing time at Real Madrid

Chelsea are reportedly planning to make a move for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

According to Spanish media outlet Don Balon (via Express) Asensio is growing frustrated to his lack of opportunities under head coach Zinedine Zidane. The Blues are ready to step in as they plan to make an offer for the Spain U21 international during the upcoming transfer window.

The 21-year-old was in superb form at the end of last season as well as the beginning of this term, but has been continously left out of the Real Madrid starting line-up.

His contract at Santiago Bernabeu is eligible all the way until the summer of 2023. Should Chelsea make an offer for him, it would have to get pretty close to the current record transfer fee of £198 million, as Asensio is hailed as one of the brightest prospects in European football.

Chelsea have already done business with Real Madrid in the past, following Alvaro Morata’s £70m move to Stamford Bridge last summer. This could turn out to be a difference maker for the Blues warding off other interested clubs form the race.

Antonio Conte could really use a player like Asensio in his team, especially after the Italian’s switch of system from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2. Cesc Fabregas is currently the only attacking midfielder in the side, and the Real Madrid starlet would be another brilliant player for the role.
