Chelsea midfielder becomes one of Spanish quartet history makers in Champions League

Cesc Fabregas is now one of the four Spanish top scorers in the UEFA Champions League after he scored his 20th goal in the competition against Qarabag on Wednesday.

His goal helped Chelsea win against the Azerbaijani side, 4-0 as they booked a place in the round of 16 of the tournament. Eden Hazard and Willian were the other scorers in the game.

Fabregas’s penalty goal was his 20th in the Champions League across the teams he has played for from Arsenal, Barcelona and now Chelsea.

According to Opta Joe on Twitter, he joins Raul who has grabbed 71 goals, Fernando Morientes with 33 goals and former Chelsea striker Fernando Torres who also has 20 goals in the Champions League.

The 30-year old midfielder is now being deployed behind Antonio Conte’s new forwards in the his newly built 3-5-2 formation. A decision that seems to be bringing the best out of the Spaniard again after an inconsistent form at the start of the season.
