Antonio Conte in impossible situation gambling on fitness of his two best players

It’s been pretty full on for Chelsea since the international break. West Brom, then Qarabag midweek, then straight back from Azerbaijan to play Liverpool on a Saturday. The whirlwind of fixtures continues now with  a Premier League game against Swansea.

This one is at home at least, after three away trips in a row, but that doesn’t mean Antonio Conte isn’t planning some serious changes.

He already highlighted the players’ potential tiredness before the Liverpool game, and a tough gruelling match against them won’t have helped his opinion of their condition. He spoke before the weekend’s game about how N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morata were injured earlier in the season after playing a burst of games consecutively, and those two will be chief among his concerns when he works out who he can afford to rest.

The problem is that they are the two key players for the team in attack and defence, and the Blues just don’t really function without them. Morata was rested for an hour in the Champions League, but other than that they’ve really racked up the minutes since returning from their previous problems.

Dare Conte risk squeezing another fixture out of them?
