‘It will be a big game against his old rivals’ – Courtois backs Morata in return to Madrid

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has claimed that newly arrived Alvaro Morata will be in for a tough test against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

The striker arrived from Atleti’s rivals Real Madrid in the summer, and has plenty of history in fixtures between the two.

“Alvaro played a lot of games againts Atletico.” Courtois is quoted as saying in The Guardian, “I think it will be a big game against his old rivals.”

Courtois also has history in the city, and has a famously strong connection with the Spanish capital where he was on with Atleti for two years. He helped them reach the Champions League final – beating Chelsea on the way – and win the league the same year. He has regularly been linked with moves back since. But the stopper knows which side his bread is buttered on Wednesday:

“It will be more friendly for me… but between the 90 minutes I will also be a rival of Atletico”, the stopper continued.

With the Madrilenos in hot form in the league, Chelsea will need both Courtois and Morata in top form if they want to get anything from this first serious European test.
