“I’m not going to stay abroad for long time” – Antonio Conte planning Italy return

Antonio Conte has shocked the Chelsea fans as he hints to be quitting the club already in a few season’s time.

Currently the Italian tactician has a contract until the summer of 2019 with the club. But, if his wishes of returning to Italy are as strong as it sounds like, there could be no extension to that deal.

Conte spoke about his future to an Italian radio station called Radio Anch’io Sport yesterday, admitting how keen he is to return to his homecountry once he eventually gets the chance.

“I miss Italy, there is no doubt.

It is not in my mind to stay abroad for a long time. Italy is my country. I will return, I don’t know when but that is the aim.”

Asked about the possibility of him moving to another country instead of England or Italy, the 47-year-old didn’t seem to be too interested of the idea – especially with China.

“China? No, absolutely not. Bundesliga? It’s always difficult to predict the future. Let’s just say that a coach is a temporary worker.

It depends on the results, but there’s desire on my part to try to do the best I can, finishing one project and then finding the right one to continue. I miss Italy, that’s a fact.

Conte has even brought up the possibility of completely quitting his managerial career and take his chance as a sporting director, for example.

Still, this experience is helping me so much. I would also like to change role, maybe become a sporting director in the future.”

Chelsea were able to get Conte to sign a new contract before the start of the season, but instead of extending his current deal that lasts until July 2019, the manager only received a hefty pay-rise.

Conte has won the league title in all of his previous four seasons when managing a professional football club, and it would be a shame to see a manager this successive to slip away from our grasp in such a short notice. What Conte is currently building at Chelsea is tremendous work and hopefully it can last for many more years to come.
