After selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, it became clearer the Blues needed depth in a department, Antonio Conte’s system will rely on hugely going into a tough season.

Reports were rife earlier that Chelsea were speaking to Leicester City in a deal to sign Danny Drinkwater but the foxes have not budged.

We don’t want to be a selling club, we want to add to it. We don’t want to sell our best players. The speculation is always going to be out there at this time of year.

You know when you have good players there might be an interest in them. You have to deal with reality but also keep a calmness about you as well.

Craig Shakespeare, Daily Mail

Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco to replace Matic but the squad needs more players as they prepare for the upcoming season with only the Frenchman, Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante as available central midfielders.

Conte has also instructed his top officials to also monitor situations at Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Everton, as he bids to price Ross Barkley away from the Goodison Park in light of his contract situation.

There have been concerns raised over the Premier League champions materials in wing back positions as well. Currently Chelsea boasts of Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses are their only capable wing back options as well as Cezar Azpilicueta in the odd situations.
