Why Nat Chalobah could leave Chelsea for bargain fee

Chelsea fans are devastated by the news that Nat Chalobah is looking to leave the club on a permanent deal.

Independent football writer Jack Pitt-Brooke was one of the first to report the news that Chalobah’s future was uncertain, and increasingly other writers are agreeing with him.

Chalobah has just returned from the U21 Euros, which saw him lose in the final on penalties to Germany. Now back at Chelsea’s training ground, he has some big decisions to make. His contract runs out in a year’s time so Chelsea could be forced into a sale if one of the rumoured bids – from clubs like Swansea and Watford – materialise. They would not even need to offer a large sum, given that the midfielder will be able to negotiate a free transfer from January onwards.

The imminent arrival of Timeoue Bakayoko, on the back of a season with limited game time for the Englishman, may have made up his mind about where his future lies.

Chelsea fans have already seen talents like Nathan Ake leave in this window, and losing a player who has been with the club his whole career will be especially painful.
