Chelsea miss out on €70m top summer target

Through a window which has consisted of largely frustration for Chelsea fans, one shining light among the sales of young academy players and seeming budget options was the chase of Alex Sandro.

The Juventus wing back was the one truly top tier player linked to the Blues, and reports from Italy confirmed interest and even bids for the former Porto man.

There was a while, about a month ago, where his signing actually looked likely rather than possible. Since then things have gone worryingly quiet, and today news emerging from the continent seems to have all but ended the dwindling hopes of securing the Brazilian.

The shocking move of Leonardo Bonnucci to AC Milan has meant that Juventus suddenly find themselves weakened when they are used to only growing stronger, and they seem very unlikely to let another first choice player leave now.

Nothing can be ruled out at this stage, but hopes are fading fast.
