Serie A side Lazio are planning to make an exceptional contract offer for their star defender Stefan De Vrij. The Netherlands international is running out with his current contract at the end of the year, but as the club have no replacement for their first-team center-back in place, they’re planning on offering him a one-year contract extension with the same buy-out clause, so a club like Chelsea would be keen on buying him next summer.
Last summer Antonio Conte expressed his interest for the 24-year-old with a €35m bid in late August, but the offer was rebuffed. However, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim a similar bid from the West London side next summer would be ‘impossible to resist’ by Lazio.
The club have no unlimited funds available, so a transfer outcome of such price for a player whose contract runs out in 2018 would be more than ideal for them.
