Chelsea legend set to return as coach

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is set to return to Chelsea in a coaching role after it has been reported that he has said his goodbyes to his Montreal teammates and the staff and he has given up his playing career to join the staff at Chelsea.

He has ended his short spell at the MLS side Impact Montreal after just six months.

New Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has spoke a number of times about wanting to work with Drogba and he may now have what he wanted.

A few days ago before the Sunderland game I said that those rare kind of former players with this status would be very good for any club to have. Especially him because he’s a Chelsea legend, but for the moment we have to respect his contract with Montreal.

It depends on the player himself, you need to give them time and opportunities to find out what the best is for them. It may be on the coaching staff or maybe as an ambassador, but that is too official and functional for me. They need to go into the squad and help players with their experience.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has agreed with Guus Hiddink’s thoughts and would love the 37 year-old to return back to the club.

I had a very good relationship with Drogba last year. He was great for the dressing room and our team. If he comes back as a coach it will be a great addition to all the team.
