“We don’t sell garbage, we sell top players” – Jose Mourinho

Tomorrow we welcome back to Stamford Bridge one of a number of recent high profiledepartures from the club.

Whilst Romelu Lukaku may never have been a fan’s favourite, like Mata or Schurrle, or a cult figure, like David Luiz, he is, no doubt a very talented young footballer.

Certain sections of the press seemed almost intent on making Mourinho admit that he made a mistake in letting him go, implying that the young striker may be out to get his revenge in Wednesday night’s fixture.

Jose merely shrugged and said, “Nobody at Chelsea doubts Lukaku is a good player, he has nothing to prove.”

So why do we let such talented players go? The answer is simply that football, like it or not, is a business. You survive by buying low & selling high.

That’s football, that’s life, that’s the market.

He also went on to explain that some players feel it is important to be at a club where they will always be first choice, where they can play every game. Chelsea, in my opinion, simply isn’t that sort of club.

Yes, we have an abundance of highly talented individuals, but we operate as a team, as a unit, & when one option is not available we regroup and come up with a solution. We win.

Sometimes you have to put emotion aside. We fans are often heartbroken when our heroes leave. But players come, players go, the world moves on.

In 1992 Gerald Ratner famously described one of products that his jewellery chain as being “total crap”…

This allegedly accelerated a spiral of decline which plunged the group seriously in to the red & resulted in the closure of hundreds of it’s stores across Britain & the USA.

So to conclude these ramblings,… I love the fact that we are a club are strong enough, & confident enough, to be able to look the World’s press in the eye & say, ”We don’t sell garbage, we sell top players.”

We are proud of what we produce. We are Chelsea.

Keep the Blue Flag flying high.
