Sunderland join Van Ginkel race

According to Voetbal International, Sunderland have entered the race against their rivals Newcastle United for the signature of Marco van Ginkel, on loan next season.

22-year-old van Ginkel hasn’t been able to make his breakthrough into the Chelsea set-up yet, since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. The Dutch international made the switch to Stamford Bridge from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

His time at Chelsea has been hit by consistent injuries, and was loaned out to Serie A side AC Milan for last season.

Dutch media outlet Voetbal International suggest that there is only a small chance that van Ginkel will spend next season in west London. BOTH Newcastle and Sunderland are interested in a loan deal for the Dutchman, for the 2015/16 season.

There hasn’t been any hints as to who are standing as favourites to win the race. What has been reported is that Sunderland boss, Dick Advocaat, is personally keen to get this deal across the line.

Van Ginkel has only made four Premier League appearances at Chelsea, and has a contract running until 2018.
