Stamford Bridge stadium expansion plans

The Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is poised to unveil the plans for the expansion of Chelsea’s home ground, Stamford Bridge. The club will be releasing information from Tuesday, in a three-day consultation with the public.

The project is set to cost around £500m, raising Chelsea’s seating from 42,000, to 60,000.

The ground has been inspired by Westminster Abbey, and the above picture is an impression of how the 60,000 seated stadium would look from the West Stand entrance.

The talks of developing the current ground have come around because of Abramovich ruling out a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea owner wants the new stadium to be the ‘cathedral of football’ – a place where everybody wants to be, and support.

A building plan which would be needed for this to happen, hasn’t been given a final value yet. However, many reports suggest that it would cost around £500m to undergo, and it’s being founded by Chelsea’s Russian owner.
