Chelsea share points with AS Roma in stunning six-goal thriller at Stamford bridge

Chelsea fought a difficult 3-3 draw from AS Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. The Blues had a chance to make it three wins in a row, but remain on top of the Group C despite the tie result.

The first half started off with a flash, with goals struck to both ends of the field. David Luiz curled a beautiful long-shot to the back of the net to break the deadlock after just eleven minutes of play for Chelsea. Eden Hazard doubled the lead on the 37th minute, but Aleksandar Kolarov pulled one back for the visitors minutes before half-time whistle.

The second half seemed like a whole other game for Chelsea as they were enjoying much more possession than during the first period. However, there was no stopping Roma from spoiling the party.

Edin Dzeko struck a thunderous volley on the hour-mark to equalize the game for the visitors. Chelsea were stun still and conceded only a few minutes after as the former Manchester City striker headed in his second. Sloppy defence from the Blues, and Roma had completed their comeback.

It seemed like the Blues were on their way to their third loss in a row, but Chelsea’s star man Hazard had other plans. The Belgian winger headed substitute Pedro’s brilliant cross to the back of the net 15 minutes before the end of the game, but faced the bench soon after.

Eden Hazard scored his first and second goal of the season against AS Roma.

Antonio Conte substituted David Luiz off for Pedro already before Roma’s second goal due to a slight ankle problem. The Italian also brought on Willian and Antonio Rudiger to chase the winner, but despite late efforts in both ends, the game finished 3-3.

Chelsea will return to action on Saturday when they host Watford on the ninth round of the Premier League campaign.
