Chelsea bounce back to stun Spurs at Wembley
Marcos Alonso netted a double as the Champions beat Tottenham in their first match at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men dominated for large stretches of the game but were unable to break through a solid blue wall, and ultimately were undone on the break by a decisive and smart Chelsea team.
The team in Blue had taken the lead from a superb Marcos Alonso free kick in the first half after a bright start, but having taken the lead Antonio Conte’s dropped deeper and deeper and suffered under immense Spurs pressure.
Crucially the Blues didn’t concede in the first half, and were only broken down by a seriously unlucky moment as Michy Batshuayi headed into his own net from a Christian Eriksen free kick.
Chelsea hit the post through Willian but it was Alonso who made himself a hero for the second time in the game, bursting through the Spurs defence and firing the ball through the falling Lloris.
It’s a huge victory for the Blues and one that bring a much needed wave of happiness and optimism to the club. With Pedro and Eden Hazard soon returning to the lineup, and Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas also ready to return soon, things are looking up for Antonio Conte and his men.
