Mourinho: John Terry will be a Chelsea player next season

Jose Mourinho, talking to the press ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with West Ham tomorrow evening, has stated that John Terry will be a Chelsea player next year.

Chelsea travel to West Ham tomorrow evening, hoping to maintain their five point lead over Manchester City, with a game in hand to play in the next few weeks after Sunday’s Cup final disrupted the fixture list.

“Five points advantage in the Premier League is not a lot because every game is difficult.”

Jose said that West Ham are capable of playing in different ways and, with a manager like Sam Allardyce, can be “very difficult opponents.”

The Blues hosted Allardyce’s side at the Bridge on Boxing Day, where a John Terry and Diego Costa goal helped Mourinho’s men to a comfortable 2-0 win.

Speaking on Chelsea’s long-standing captain, Mourinho stated that:

John Terry will be a Chelsea player next season.

I know what my board tells me – no doubts he’s going to get his contract.

The comments come after Terry confirmed that for him the future is either “Chelsea or retirement.” [BBC Sport]

Jose said that sometimes “the solution is round the corner, sometimes it is not”, but in John Terry’s case he has plenty of time.

Mourinho also discussed the future of Petr Cech in the press conference:

Petr Cech is not a guy to be persuaded. He will make his decision.

Unsurprisingly in a season of tinkering, Mourinho also confirmed that he would not start the same 11 players tomorrow as he did on Sunday in the 2-0 win over Spurs.

Speaking on Kurt Zouma’s role on Sunday, Mourinho said he “does not often like to ask players to do jobs when they are not ready, especially not in finals, but Zouma was ready.”

Chelsea kick off at 19:45 [GMT] away to Allardyce’s West Ham tomorrow evening.
