Mata show his class after Chelsea win

Ex-Chelsea man Juan Mata did not let Chelsea fans down following the Blues 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday, as a mutual respect was shared between the fans and the Spaniard before and after the game at Stamford Bridge.

The playmaker made his return to West London on Saturday evening, and responded to the appreciation of the home support with class, whilst also headlining his blog this morning with ‘I feel proud’.

Eden Hazard’s goal handed the Blues victory and took them to within two wins of winning their first Premier League title since 2010, in a game that saw Mata receive a warm reception from Chelsea fans, both before kick-off and particualrly by the Matthew Harding faithful as the playmaker jogged over to take an early corner in the game.

The ex-Chelsea man, who won Player of the Year awards in two consecutive seasons for the blues, was granted a standing ovation as he left the field of play mid-way through the second half.

In his weekly blog, One Hour Behind, the Spaniard was keen to return the appreciation to Chelsea fans, players and staff following Saturday’s fixture.

“It was really moving to feel the people’s respect and affection, and I will always be grateful for that. To them, and also to the players, I thank them for such affection and I congratulate them for the title they are about to win, because it’s almost done.

“It was nice to meet them and chat with them after the game, and also the club’s staff, doctors, physios etc, and feel their respect and friendship. Thanks to all and congratulations.”

The 26-year-old also stayed behind after the game to embrace every Chelsea player as they walked off the pitch, emphasising the reasons behind the Chelsea fans’ appreciation.
