Chelsea interested in £15m World Cup star

According to circulated reports in the Spanish press, Chelsea are keenly watching Inter Milan’s goalkeeper Samir Handanovic situation at the Italian club, and are hoping they will be able to grab the goalkeeper in the summer, as a potential replacement for Petr Cech, who could be departing Stamford Bridge.

The Slovenian represented his country at the 2010 world cup in South Africa, and is reportedly available for around the £15 million mark. Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and French champions PSG are all teams who have also been rumoured to be interested in the Inter shot-stopper.

You can’t be 100% sure of Chelsea’s interest in the player or otherwise at this stage in the season, but seeing how Chelsea have acted in the transfer market lately, it is difficult to see how the Blues will sanction a move for a 30-year old goalkeeper who will cost £15 million and is likely to be a back up to Courtois.

Samir Handanovic is a very good good keeper ( testament to this is his listing in daily mail’s top 10 goalkeepers in the world ). However, at 30 years of age, how much will he have in his legs? Also, knowing he only has a number of years left, will he want them to be sitting on the bench as an understudy to a ‘keeper who doesn’t look like he’ll be dropped anytime soon? I doubt it.
