Cesc suspension reduced

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will only serve a one-match ban following his sending off in Monday nights fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

The Spaniard received a red card for kicking the ball into a crowd of Albion players, hitting Chris Brunt on the head, following an altercation in the box involving Diego Costa and Gareth McAuley.

The Blues claim that a regulatory three-match suspension would have been an excessive punishment was successful, after an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing earlier today.

Fabregas will miss the final game of the season this Sunday against Sunderland but will now be available for selection from the beginning of next season.

The FA has released the following statement:

“A claim by Chelsea that the three-match suspension for Cesc Fabregas is excessive has been upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.”

“Fabregas was dismissed for violent conduct during the West Bromwich Albion FC v Chelsea FC fixture on 18 May.”

The Regulatory Commission has reduced the Chelsea midfielder’s suspension to one match, to be served with immediate effect.
