Marcos Alonso will not feature for Chelsea against Everton according to sources in Spain

Marcos Alonso will not feature for Chelsea against Everton this afternoon as he closes in on a move to Barcelona.

Sources in Spain are saying that the left wing back has asked for – and been given – permission to miss the game at Goodison Park today, where Thomas Tuchel’s team open their season live on TV against Frank Lampard’s Everton.

In reality, this is a bit of a blow. Marc Cucurella has arrived to replace Alonso, but has just one training session with the team under his belt. Ben Chilwell is clearly not up to Premier League speed just yet.

So Alonso might well have played, if not for this looming transfer. It will be interesting to see how Tuchel plays this, if indeed it’s true that Alonso is out. Could we see Emerson make a return to the Chelsea first team at last? Until Chilwell is back, he could be quite the regular.
