Failed young Chelsea winger explains why CHO is different

It’s easy to forget this now, but a few years ago Jeremie Boga was the brightest attacking star coming out of the academy.

The young Frenchman was treated with the same excitement as Callum Hudson-Odoi is now, although he was never given first team chances like Callum has been.

Instead, he was farmed out on loan and eventually forced to leave for Sassuolo in the summer of 2018.

However, speaking to Goal.com, Boga doesn’t necessarily suggest the same path for CHO:

“I think it isn’t an easy decision for Callum, but everyone has their own opinion,” Boga said.

“I think you see him now exposed to the national team, then maybe that will help him get playing time at Chelsea.”

That exposure to international football could be key. Boga, of course, has been competing with perhaps the deepest pool of talent in the world in France, so has never come close to a cap. Callum, on the other hand, can now add senior England international to his CV.

That surely has to raise the pressure on Maurizio Sarri just a little to play him more often?

In fact, this weekend against Cardiff looks like the perfect opportunity.
