Ruben Loftus-Cheek reveals interesting footballing hero

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has had plenty of media focus in the last few months.

The youngster has had a really strong season developing at Crystal Palace, culminating in an exceptional England debut before Christmas.

He then picked up an injury that ruled him out for three months, before returning to form – and the England squad.

He doesn’t look like he’ll be starting against Tunisia, but he’s had plenty of attention from the papers.

This week they asked him which players had inspired him, and his answer may surprise some people who think of him as more of a defensively focused player.

“Zidane was just so majestic on the ball, relaxed. He oozed class and I loved watching him. I remember France against Brazil in 2006. One of those game I just couldn’t believe the class of him,” the Daily Mirror quote him as saying.

That was one of the exceptional midfielder performances of all time, and it’s easy to imagine a young Ruben being transfixed by the Frenchman gliding through the midfield in that game.

Perhaps we will see a little of that magic at some point from Ruben?
