Chelsea’s manager hunt already well behind schedule as World Cup week arrives

It’s Monday, and we’re now into uncharted territory for Chelsea.

The World Cup starts this week, and while we were hoping to have our future sorted long before the big kick off in Russia, we’ve never looked further from a conclusion.

It looked almost certain that Antonio Conte would get his severance package before the FA Cup champagne had even gone flat – now we’re almost closer to the early rounds of that competition starting again for next season than Chelsea’s trophy list a few weeks ago.

Maurizio Sarri, Laurent Blanc Luis Enrique and more have all had their time in the sun as favourite for the job – now Conte’s odds of staying are beginning to creep a little shorter. Could that really be possible? Real Madrid entering the market for a new manager unexpectedly has also thrown a cat among the pigeons.

The aim of having someone sorted by the start of the World Cup can be pretty much written off now. Let’s try and make sure we someone in place by the end of it.
