The only reasonable explanation for why Antonio Conte is still Chelsea boss

It’s quiet at Chelsea… too quiet.

After maybe 6 months of the footballing world being certain that Antonio Conte would get the bullet moments after the team’s last game of the season, we’re now into the fourth day without so much as a whisper from the coach or club.

That’s unusual. The Blues are – tragically – efficient at dispatching managers. Whether it’s on the bus home or the corridor outside the press room, we’ve got a bad reputation for bumping them off pretty ruthlessly.

Given that the board’s relations with Conte seem to be significantly worse than they were with some of those previous coaches, it’s probably not out of politeness.

The only answer seems to be that the two parties are still negotiating a compromise for the coach’s payoff.

The only other possible reason is that the Italian is staying as manager, and that’s not possible… is it?
