“I have not worked with many players better” – Chelsea’s loan star hailed by manager

When Crystal Palace sacked Frank de Boer and replaced him with Roy Hodgson way back in the Autumn, there were Chelsea fans who moaned and said that it wasn’t a good move from Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s perspective.

How wrong they were.

The midfielder has thrived under Hodgson, to the extent that he’s earned a callup to the World Cup with England.

That’s all based on some superb showings with Palace though, as he established himself as a key part of their team either side of an injury.

Hodgson himself was extremely complimentary about Ruben, describing him as below in the Times:

“I have not worked with many players better than Ruben Loftus-Cheek and what he can be.”

That’s high praise from a man who has managed teams like Inter Milan in the past. Rather than limit him, Hodgson’s structure allowed RLC to shine, and provided him with the platform to excel. Without the former Fulham boss’ influence, it’s hard to see him getting anywhere near the World Cup squad.
