New twist in Maurizio Sarri deal could wipe hefty £7m release clause for Chelsea

It’s an open secret that Chelsea may be getting closer and closer to snatching a new manager to replace Antonio Conte with Maurizio Sarri now set to speak with other clubs in Europe.

The Blues are the leading candidates to capture the 59-year old’s signature on their contract forms despite strong interest from Zenit St Petersburg.

One thing bothers the Stamford Bridge hierarchy though, as they have to pay off almost £20 million in compensation to several parties in order to land Sarri. Antonio Conte will not leave until he receives £9m, while his backroom staff are also reportedly in the queue to receive their share of the compensation according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Sarri also needs to be freed from his Napoli contract and despite the club signing on a new manager, any club that wants his services must Napoli a sum of £7 to land him.

However according to the Telegraph, Napoli will let Sarri leave for free if Chelsea let David Luiz move the other way for a ‘cut price fee’.

Luiz arrived at Chelsea in 2015 for £34m but the Blues know the 31-year old cannot be sold for more than £20m and this deal could be straightened up really well as he does not move to a direct European rival.

Luiz missed several games this season due to injuries but mainly his strained relationship with Antonio Conte ensured he was sat out in matches when he was fully recovered. With the Italian set to depart the club during this off season, Luiz might be ready to reboot his career at the West London club in order to re-establish himself at the club.
