Chelsea’s youth signing leads his side to tournament victory in Holland

Chelsea youngster Daishawn Redan, signed from Ajax last summer, captained the Dutch U17 team to victory in the U17 European Championships on Sunday.

The Dutch finished top of a group featuring some pretty decent sides – Serbia, Germany, Spain and the Dutch themselves – group of death anyone?

But they battled their way out, before edging past the Irish and the English on penalties to get themselves to the final where they beat the Italians – also on penalties.

Way back in 2012 the Dutch also won the trophy while captained by former Blue Nathan Ake, who has just won Bournemouth’s player of the season award.

It’s a great cap to a great debut season in England for Redan, where he has impressed just as much as was hoped when we signed him last summer. Next season he can build on this, and we may even see a few minutes in the first team.
