Chelsea’s loan star cut from World Cup squad

Chelsea have had a raft of players selected for their nations’ initial World Cup squads, but they’re now seeing them trimmed down heavily to the final groups of 24, and there will be casualties across the board.

One of the first of those is Mario Pasalic, who has been left out of the final Croatia squad. this is hardly a black mark against his name given the quality of midfielders they have – in fact being taken in the initial squad is a huge compliment.

Pasalic has been on loan at Spartak Moscow this season after impressive spells at AC Milan and Monaco in the last few years. He looks like the level of player that might never break into Chelsea’s first team plans, but he will certainly earn a good fee if and when he is sold.

That could be this summer, or we could see another loan as the club look to inflate his value even further.
