Why Chelsea should steer clear of world-class €55m striker

Whispers have started up this week that Juventus may be willing to sell star striker Gonzalo Higuain, with Chelsea named among his potential destinations should he move away from the serial title winners in Turin.

CalcioMercato not only claim that Higuain could leave, they also name his price tage – €55m.

Is that a believable figure? Probably. One the one hand it’s almost half what they paid for him, but the Argentine is well into his 30s now, and as is well known, he’s not in the best physical shape.

He’s the kind of player whose form will probably go off a cliff one day, and if the ever-wily Juve are willing to sell him we should be very wary that that day is just around the corner.

There’s plenty to be said for experience and goals in a player, but in some cases it’s better to think long term. This might be one of them.
