The centre back had a really impressive season, working his way into Rafa Benitez’ first team plans in the Autumn and then establishing himself as one of the top defenders in the bottom half.
Still, for Chelsea to be linked with him is quite a stretch. The story has West Ham as the other interested party, which perhaps would be perhaps a less surprising change of level for the former Nottingham Forest man.
He’s got plenty of potential, but with David Luiz, Andreas Christensen, Gary Cahill, Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma, not to mention Cesar Azpilicueta, available in that position, would he even get a sniff at Stamford Bridge?
