Chelsea lead queue to sign Italian manager with Milan, Zenit and Tottenham all lurking

Chelsea are the most linked to Italian manager Maurizio Sarri with reports saying he may be the main target for the Blues to replace Antonio Conte in the summer.

Sarri has been one of the most entertaining managers in the last season, leading Napoli to a new title triumph in the Serie A, although ultimately failing in the last stretch of the league campaign.

With reports in Italy saying there is a rift between he and the club’s President Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Blues in England are looking to pounce and replace Conte with him and Goal reported contact had been made.

Chelsea have struggled this season, placing fifth in the league standings, 30 points behind winners Manchester City. They also crashed out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup before winning the FA Cup in a final against Manchester United.

So Conte is expected to leave and for Chelsea to land their main Italian replacement, they have to cough up to €8m for Sarri’s signature according to his agent, Alessandro Pellegrini who revealed AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Zenit St Petersburg are also monitoring his situation.

“We haven’t received any offers from Chelsea, Tottenham, Milan or Zenit. Could Sarri leave? For a club to appoint him, they need to pay his €8m release clause.”
