Alvaro Morata has positive response to Spain’s 2018 World Cup snub

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has missed out on the trip to Russia this summer after the Spain squad was confirmed on Monday but he held no grudges, saying he wishes them the best.

The young forward has always maintained his desire to show up at the global football showpiece in his national colors but failed to make the cut after a disappointing summer with the Blues in the Premier League.

Morata scored 15 goals this season, eleven in the Premier League, with only three in 2018. His form meant Chelsea signed Olivier Giroud from Arsenal in January to augment his efforts as Chelsea’s season went from bad to worse.

Spain manager Julen Lopetegui decided to go with former Chelsea striker Diego Costa, Iago Aspas and Rodrigo Moreno to the World Cup insisting afterwards, he ‘could not take four strikers’ to the tournament.

The news came as little surprise for many after Morata’s season to forget for his new side but he maintain his support for his international teammates.
