Chelsea had plenty of chances in the first half but couldn’t break through Southampton’s resolute defence.
Within moments of the second half starting, they had that breakthrough. Eden Hazard brought down a long ball from Cesc Fabregas and played in Olivier Giroud.
The Frenchman stumbled but stayed on his feet to weave through defenders and poke the ball into the net with real composure.
It’s just what this game needed to open up. There could be more chances now.
