Two reasons why Chelsea midfielder’s World Cup rumours make perfect sense

The Daily Mail today has an exclusive claiming that Ruben Loftus Cheek will go to the World Cup with England if he’s able to stay injury free for the rest of the season and get back to full match fitness with Crystal Palace.

It’s a pretty surprising turn of events, given he had only just made his debut for his country when he was ruled out with an injury that has bothered him ever since.

But it makes sense. Firstly,Gareth Southgate knows from the youth ranks what RLC can do.

Secondly, the England boss has also shown consistently that he’s not afraid to take risks like this. He’s come in to a disastrous situation at England, and the upside of that is that he has nothing to lose. RLC, and Chelsea fans, could be the biggest beneficiaries of that mentality.

Thirdly, England have a huge weak point in central midfield. There’s hardly a queue of top players waiting to get on that plane. If Ruben plays, and plays well, from now on, he’ll be in Russia.
